anne bonny was born on the outskirts of cork, ireland. the illegitimate daughter of attorney william cormac and his secretary, mary brennan, anne's birth was quite the scandal for her father. in an attempt to hide the girl's existence, william paid mary off in exchange for her silence on anne's true parentage.the sum would have been just enough to secure for anne a proper young lady's education, but mary instead spent the money to relocate with her daughter to london. once there, her mother took a job as a scullion, but making enough to feed both of them meant that money was a persistent problem.with her mother working long hours & leaving her to her own devices more often than not, anne grew up to be headstrong & scrappy, hiding her hair beneath her hat so that she was often mistaken for a rambunctious young boy. by the time her daughter was twelve years old, mary was at her wit's end, & actively looking for a way to get her out of the house. & she found it in the form of a marriage offer.james bonny was a wealthy business owner with several investments in the city, & he offered a large sum of money for anne's "dowry." mary agreed, & within a week anne was wed.her new husband was a cruel man, & he did not take kindly to the wild & stubborn attitude that anne had cultivated. instead, he attempted to break her of it through beatings, burning, & sexual violence. he also forced her to work as a barmaid at an inn he owned on the river thames. anne was only thirteen.one night while working at the inn, another man witnessed james beating his young wife. anne had never met the man before, but he was incensed by the sight. he stepped in, cutting her husband's throat with a razor & killing him instantly.that man was jack rackham, of the english navy. pitying the young girl, jack offered anne some money & advice on where to look for a new place to work. but anne, feeling safe with jack, instead followed him through town, remaining mostly hidden.

impressed with her skills at going unseen & already attached to the young anne, jack agreed to help her stow away on his next vessel so that she could remain with him. anne disguises herself as a young boy, intentionally this time, & the two boarded a navy ship bound for the caribbean. anne remained largely hidden during the journey, & successfully arrives unnoticed in the bahamas. once they make landfall, jack deserts the navy to stay with her. he & anne immediatley made their way to nassau, a well-known pirate port.from that moment on, anne & jack were scarcely separated for more than an hour. jack took anne under his wing, taught her how to sail, how to fight with a sword, how to read, & how to navigate by the stars. & she in turn remained at his side, growing faithful to & protective of the man who had been her savior.when she was sixteen years old, anne witnessed jack kissing another woman. enraged & overwhelmed with jealousy, anne threatened the woman with a knife, causing her to flee. confronted by jack about her actions, anne confesses that she has fallen in love with him. although initially hesitant to return her affections, jack eventually admits that he has similar feelings, & the two become lovers.eventually, anne & jack join the crew of the notorious pirate charles vane. captain vane initially did not want to allow anne to sail with his crew, but relented after she killed a man who questioned her ability to defend herself. while anne asserted her place among the men, jack rose quickly through the ranks on his charm & intelligence. soon, jack was voted quartermaster. anne herself never cared much for ship politics, and she remained fiercely loyal to jack above all, no matter how his position changed.over time, anne became a formidable & feared pirate — though not in her own right. rather, she became known as jack's guard dog, a strange & sullen woman who was also a noted warrior. she was always at his side & always ready to draw a blade in his defense. for almost a decade, anne sailed through the caribbean with jack under captain vane.

asha was born to lord balon & lady alannys greyjoy of the iron islands on a chilly afternoon on he eve of winter. the third child (& first girl) born to the couple, lady alannys had a short & easy labor. though her father & eldest brother, rodrik, were at sea at the time of her birth, her brother maron had chosen to remain at pyke, & was present to welcome asha to the world.asha grew quickly. easily frustrated by all limitations, asha learned to walk earlier than most children. & once she did, it was impossible to keep her in one place. endlessly curious, she loved to roam about the castle, & made friends with anyone she encountered – the captains, the servants, & even the dogs in the yard. in spite of her headstrong nature, she was beloved by her mother, brothers, & the people of pyke.when she was two, asha's mother gave birth to her youngest son, a squalling boy she named theon. alannys soon became preoccupied with her new baby, & asha was put into the lessons that were expected of her sex: sewing, singing, & etiquette. asha hated these lessons. although she enjoyed learning – in particular hearing history tales from her nuncle rodrik – she would grow bored quickly in those her mother encouraged her to attend.often, in an effort to escape etiquette, asha would instead follow her elder brothers out of the castle to watch them spar, imitating them with pieces of driftwood. amused by her daughter's indomitable stubbornness, alannys soon gave up trying to force asha into grls' lessons & began allowing her to train with her elder brothers, which she did every day.asha was a natural, & quickly became adept with bladed weapons. she adored sparring with her brothers. before long, she was sailing at their sides, learning her way around a ship & her homelands as she made friends with more of their people. for a time, asha lived a idyllic life of travel & adventure. but when she was twelve, her father suddenly summoned her & her brothers back to pyke with all haste.

lord balon called his family & captains to his side & made the announcement that that they would no longer kneel to the iron throne; as of that day, they were an independent kingdom, & he was their king. asha didn’t realize what this truly meant, but her father & brothers were elated, drunk on the idea that power could be so easy to grasp. her uncles sailed to lannisport & set the lions' golden fleet afire, her father donned a new driftwood crown, & her parents began calling her princess asha.for a time, was was exciting. but it wasn’t long before the tide of fate turned, & the greyjoys began to lose both ships & men. balon withdrew into his war chambers more & more often, & alannys grew paranoid of spies, forbidding asha & theon children from leaving the castle. asha's eldest brother rodrik was sent to the battle at seaguard, & never returned. & soon after, the war came to pyke.asha watched from the innermost keep as baratheon & stark men together smashed through pyke’s walls. she watched as maron was killed, trapped beneath a crumbling tower. & when the battle was finally over, she watched her father kneel in the mud, his crown broken, no longer a king. & then she watched as theon was taken away to winterfell, her only surviving brother a hostage to the wolves.after the war, lady alannys became a ghost of her former self, her grief over the loss of her sons driving her to madness. & with lord balon broken & defeated, asha was the only hope remaining to their family. & so, at age 13, asha took over command of her eldest brother’s ship, the black wind. over years, she rebuilt the confidence of her captains & the ships of the iron fleet. & although balon had never paid his daughter much attention before, when asha turned 17 her father told her that he saw all her good work, & promised her that upon his death he would name her his heir.for ten years, asha carried the mantle of her family name. she learned from her uncles & followed in her brothers' footsteps, molding herself to be strong as iron, the heir her people needed. when she turned twenty-three, her youngest brother theon returned to pyke. but lord balon no longer trusted his youngest son, & asha refused to cede her role as leader of the ironmen to a boy she no longer knew.

serena byrd grew up in the middle of nowhere, utah. the youngest of lucy & eugene byrd's five daughters, serena was born into the church of latter-day saints. from the outside, theirs was the picture-perfect mormon household : a commanding father, a dutiful & demure mother, five lovely daughters, & a healthy son.serena alone was not satisfied with her lot. she was never inclined to serve god — or anyone, for that matter. while her elder sisters obeyed their fathers' (both heavenly & physical) every command, serena was intensely creative & endlessly rebellious. she cut her own hair using craft scissors, doodled constantly on her shoes & skin, & always found some way to ruin her church-approved clothes, much to her mother's dismay. she was also easily bored & drawn to make art, often caught drawing in the bibles during church — a practice which enraged her father to no end.the byrd children were homeschooled, & taught only what aligned exactly with the word of god. with creative expression seen as dangerously close to free thought, serena's opportunities to make art as she wanted to were limited. & she was desperate to get out of her restrictive home. when she was 15, serena begged her parents to allow her to get a job. after much convincing, she was hired at a local coffee shop.there, serena spent her days clearing tables, washing dishes, & pouring coffee. but unbeknownst to her parents, she was actually saving most of her paychecks in hopes of going to art school in california — something a good mormon girl would never do.one day, while working a late shift, serena met an older boy named samson, & the two began talking. samson was himself raised in the church of latter-day saints, but had defected at 18. it was samson that began calling serena "birdie" — a nickname that stuck all her life — & told her that there was much more to the world than utah. for the first time, birdie truly considered a future outside of the church. at only 15, birdie was fascinated by samson, & the two started dating soon after they met. samson had a reputation in their small town for being an apostate & trouble-maker, but birdie found his secular perspective on the world to be refreshing, even a little awe-inspiring.

although they tried to keep their relationship a secret, it took only a few weeks for birdie's father to see the two holding hands at the coffee shop. eugene was, of course, livid. he forced his daughter to quit her job, & forbade her from seeing samson, or even leaving the home without one of her sisters accompanying her. but birdie finally understood that she would never be free while living under her father's thumb, & was determined to make her escape at any cost.that night, birdie packed a bag & snuck out of her childhood home, knowing she could never return. she planned to use the money she had saved on two bus tickets to san francisco, expecting that samson would come with her. but when she arrived at his house, samson refused. birdie was shocked and heartbroken, but she knew that this was the one chance she would have to leave, even if she had to go alone.& so go she did, at age 16 on a bus to san francisco by herself. once in the city, birdie spent several weeks living on the streets before she found a small room that she could afford to rent. but in spite of her poverty, birdie was truly happy for the first time in her life. she quickly took a new job at a new coffee shop, & began exploring her new city.once in the bay area, she began experimenting heavily with psychedelic drugs, became involved with local antiwar communities, & threw herself into making art out of anything she could get her hands on. she would drop lsd or take mushrooms, then paint or sculpt for hours on end, safe in her solitude. & so she stayed for years, poor & living in near squalor, but entirely free.but when she reached her late 20s, birdie finally began coming back down to earth. with the goal in mind to make art for a living without ever needing to commercialize her work, birdie decided to become a teacher. she stopped doing psychedelics, & after four years of studying hard, she got her ged, followed by her california state teaching certification.soon, "miss birdie" as she became to be known by her students, started teaching art in the local public schools. what's more, she finally had the finances to move into a nicer apartment, with plenty of space to make her own studio. at long last, birdie had what she'd always wanted : a life that was all her own.

brian was born in a tiny town in ohio – the kind of town that only has a single stop sign, & not even a traffic light. his mother was a foster child with a troubled past herself, & she had brian when she was only sixteen. before he was even a year old, holly had fallen into the grips of an intense opioid addiction. with no known family to take him in, brian was put into foster care.the rural ohio foster care system being strained to its capacity, brian was first placed in a house with six other foster kids, all having been rescued from various bad situations. his first family was never meant to be long-term, but brian would stay there for four years while the system searched for a more permanent place for him.at the age of five, brian was moved into his second home, this time that of a young couple who had never fostered a child before. but by then, brian had already been dubbed a "problem child." being one of seven foster children in his previous home, brian had been taught to be extremely loud or destructive when he needed attention. he lashed out seemingly at random, and acted out loudly, unpredictably, crudely, and even sometimes violently. within a year the young couple decided that they couldn't handle his outbursts, & returned him to the custody of the foster care system. in the meantime, brian was placed in a boy's home to await his next placement.& so the cycle continued on, repeating for years. brian would be placed into a new home & then cycled back out for his bad behavior within a few months. over the course of the next decade, brian would be placed in eight different homes, living with ten different foster families in all.when he was fifteen, brian was placed into another foster home. but by that time, he knew it would be his last. the first night there, brian stole a bundle of cash from the wife's purse, snuck out the window, and hitchhiked to chicago. when he arrived in the city, brian panhandled for cash, living on the streets.

but soon, at an outdoor rock show, brian met GIOVANNI DI CARLO. gio was happy to take brian under his wing, teach him to play bass guitar & even let him sleep in his van. over time, the boys grew closer. brian had never had a real friend before, but gio took him in warmly. he even invited brian to stay over at the di carlo house frequently. & soon, the two boys were undeniably best friends.over time, brian began to think of the di carlo family as his own. eventually, the two boys started a punk band along with another friend, shane soto. although brian was not incredibly talented at music, he was decent at bass. what he really liked was the idea of being a rock star. he liked the concepts of having fame & money & power & freedom. & with no dreams of his own, brian took up gio's.but brian was quickly drawn into the illicit side of rock & roll. he frequently uses drugs & overindulges in alcohol at shows. gio looks out for his friend as best as he can, encouraging him to stop partying so hard & take the actual music more seriously.but brian's struggles with addiction often prove to be stronger than anything, even their friendship. too often, he makes self-destructive decisions, even ones that often put himself & others in danger.

calypso is the child of the titan atlas, who holds the world, & the ocean nymph plieone. she was born in the form of a crab in the salt-spray of the sea. immortal and able to control the ocean as if it were a part of herself, calypso spent many centuries in shifting form, interacting with mortals & immortals alike, often unknown.although she was a goddess by birth, calypso also had human blood within her, & was thus always drawn to the human world. rash, impulsive, & prone to fits of emotion, calypso fell in love with a mortal man -- a sailor named davy jones. as a gift, she created his ship, the flying dutchman. but as with all her power, the spell had a cost.jones would need to give the souls of those who died at sea safe passage into the next world. in exchange for the work, jones would be given one day spent ashore with calypso for every decade spent at sea. because his love was so great, davy agreed. but after his first ten years, when he returned to meet his beloved, she did not come to meet him. for she was as fickle and unpredictable as the tides themselves.heartbroken by her betrayal, jones betrayed what secrets he had learned of calypso to the pirate lords of the brethren court, who used calypso's own power to bind her in a singular form -- that of a human woman. bound within a mortal body, her powers were greatly limited. she was able to keep her body from aging, but no longer could calypso control the seas.the pirate lords celebrated their newfound control. calypso fled from the sea, instead taking for her home a small shack deep in the swamps of cuba. for several decades, she honed the craft of voodoo, enhancing the sacred art with her own magic. she took the name tia dalma, earned a fearsome reputation as a witch and a voodoo priestess, & befriended many who sought out her services. among them was edward teague, & later, his son, jack sparrow.

as the war against piracy began & davy jones became servant to the east india company, calypso assists jack in evading jones' kraken, & after his death, revives Bbarbossa and joins in the ultimately successful to retrieve jack's soul. but what was unbeknownst to sparrow was that calypso needed jack's pirate lord totem to complete the ritual to free herself and exact her revenge upon jones and the brethren court.on the day of the battle, barbossa performs the ritual and the pirate ragetti speaks the incantation to free her. calypso first grows in size, her power too great for such a small body, before returning to the form of the crab that had always been her favored shape. before departing, she creates a malestrom that does not still until davy jones falls dead into her waters, her vengeance at last achieved.her goal realized, calypso departs to the depths, leaving the human world far behind her.

carlisle was the son of a pastor whose sermons often spoke of demons & devils lurking in the dark. carlisle too went into the church, driven by a his belief in an all-compassionate god. & while carlisle regarded the less scientific of his father's beliefs as mere superstition, he should have listened more closely to his father's warnings.late one night, when he was on his way to perform last rites to a dying child, he was attacked & bitten by a horrifying monster. carlisle survived by dragging himself into the sewers below london as the sun rose. the change was painful & confusing. even in his dellerium, he refused to attack a human. but his bloodlust demanded to be sated, & his first meal as a vampire consisted of a dozen or so rats.when he emerged after three nights of agony, carlisle felt a strange force calling to him from out of the city. there, he found his sire, & carlisle finally understood that he himself had become one of the demons his father had always warned of.carlisle lamented his new immortal life & refused to hunt. unwilling to teach a defective fledgling, goëjlrm sent carlisle away to learn from the most ruthless of his progeny, the baron afanas. carlisle & the baron shared a blood bond as children of the same sire, but the two could not be more different. baron tried to teach carlisle to hunt humans. but carlisle continued to refuse, stubbornly surviving on wild animals.when the baron's court visited italy, carlisle discovered the voltiri coven. their leader, aro, showed interest in carlisle's strange lifestyle, & invited him to stay. & with tensions only growing between he & the baron, carlisle agreed. he used his time with the very highly educated coven to study modern science & medicine, & enjoyed the sense of community there.but as time passed, aro gradually bagan to lose interest in carlisle's strange ways, often attempting to convince him to feed on human blood alongside them. but in all his time with the volturi, carlisle never tasted human blood, & refused to feed as they did. soon enough, carlisle began to feel that he had overstayed his welcome. & so, with nowhere else to go, he left italy & returned to the baron's side.

but upon his return, baron doubled down in the pressure for carlisle to accept his nature & drink human blood. one night, baron successfully goaded carlisle into feeding on & killing a human. afterwards, carlisle is wracked with guilt. to convince him to do it again, baron brought carlisle a young man, urging him to feed. when carlisle refused, baron attacked the boy, leaving him bleeding out. just before he dies, carlisle bites the boy, making him a fledgling.the newborn was named billy, & while he was beloved by both carlisle & the baron, he did little to improve matters in their relationship. the two argued frequently about the nature of vampirism, & often used the boy as a pawn in their disagreements. carlisle used his influence as billy's sire to curb the fledgling's bloodlust, while baron encouraged it.one night, carlisle took billy & fled to the new world, hoping to build a life away from baron's influence. but in the young americas, carlisle continued trying to curb billy's instincts & appetites, which the young vampire only grew to resent. & eventually, billy found a companion of his own & abandoned carlisle.left alone for the first time in his life, carlisle decided to become a doctor. the practice of healing gave carlisle a sense of purpose for the first time in centuries, & he becan travel the continent, helping sick & injured people. in some ways, he saw his work as an attempt to make up for his murderous nature.it was while carlisle was working as a doctor in mexico that he met his wife, esme. esme was married to another man, & carlisle provided her with fertility treatments. but when esme fell very sick & the medices all failed, carlisle couldn't stop himself from offering esme another way for her to escape death.esme agreed, & carlisle turned her into a vampire. the two married & began to travel. in new york, esme found rosalie in the street after being attacked, & turned her to save her life. later, two vampires named alice & jasper called to them, claiming to have seen them alice's visions of their family. carlisle & esme welcomed them into their family, & begin to pose as their adopted parents when they travel. & so, the cullen clan was born.

the plane crashes deep in the canadian rockies. within days, lottie runs out of her medication and begins having frequent visual and auditory hallucinations. what really happened in the wilderness is a subject of speculation. over time, her visions begin to lead not only lottie, but all of the yellowjackets to ritualistically hunt, sacrifice, and cannibalize each other. but in spite of the violence and fear, lottie finds a sense of deep meaning in the wilderness, a presence and connection to the world around her. & when the time comes, she does not want to leave.yet leave she does, when the yellowjackets are finally rescued after living for 19 months in the wilderness.upon rher rescue, lottie did not speak or sleep or eat. she seemed, for all intents and purposes, emotionally comatose. in an effort to "fix" his daughter, lottie's father enrolled her in extensive courses of electroshock therapy. when this didn't work, lottie was sent away to be institutionalized in switzerland.for most of her twenties, lottie lived in a swiss mental hospital. she slowly began to regain her voice by talking to other patients about their trauma, fears, and pain. it took a decade for lottie to be considered well enough to be discharged. but ten years later, under heavy medication, lottie finally returned to her father's home in new york city.but lottie hated living at home with her father, so within a year of returning home she convinced him to purchase a plot of land for her in upstate new york. the property was rural, surrounded by forest and on the shores of a lake — the perfect place for her to focus on her health. lottie converted the space into an intentional community focused on healing mental and emotional wounds, and welcomed those in need to stay with her. the only thing they would need to do in return was share in her community's philosophies and work toward the common good of the group.for ten years, lottie lived a quiet life of power and prestige on her compound. until one day, a fellow survivor, travis martinez, called her out of the blue. travis warned lottie that the he feared that wilderness had followed them home, and that the yellowjackets were in danger. & to lottie's horror, travis would soon be proven correct.

louis was born on october 1877 to the wealthy de pointe du lac family of new orleans. despite being of creole descent in the jim-crow era deep south, louis' father had made a name for himself as a real estate dealer & property manager, & provided his family all they needed & then some.but after his father's death in 1905, louis felt a heavy responsibility to provide for the du lac family as the oldest of his mother's three children. but he was still a young man at heart, & lacked his father's deep connections in the business community. the many properties they owned struggled for a time, & louis consolidated all that was left of their family trust into a handful of smaller ventures — a brothel, a cardhouse, a few rooms for rent.although louis felt ashamed of turning his family's legacy of landowners to prostitution & gambling, no one could deny that the profit was good. thanks to him, his family was able to maintain their comfortable lifestyle. louis' mother & sister supported his business decisions, but his devout brother, paul, warned louis about the dangers of tangling with evil & temptation.& it was in his own brothel that louis first met lestat de lioncourt — a strange frenchman fresh off the boat from paris. lestat seemed quite taken with louis, appearing at his businesses & pursuing him intensely. lestat also seemed to have strange abilities — undue influence over others, to speak without speaking, even to hold time itself captive. &, with louis suspicious but weak under the attention lestat lavished him with, the two men quickly became lovers.on their first night together, lestat bit louis & drank of his blood. still louis continued to see lestat, posing as business partners & even bringing him to see meet his family. but paul deems lestat the devil. & on the day after their sister's wedding, at sunrise, paul bids louis not to see lestat any longer — just before walking off a roof to his death.filled with fear & grief & guilt & unsure where else to go, louis fled into a church to confess his sins. but lestat followed, killing the priests in front of louis & revealing his true vampiric nature beyond any doubt.

& then lestat offered louis a choice : to take his mortal suffering & replace it with a dark gift. & there, on the altar, louis agreed. & lestat turned him.but louis did not take to immortality. he was consumed with guilt, unable to forgive himself for killing humans. he instead fed himself with the blood of rats, stray cats, pigeons, & other animals. as the years passed, his family became more & more suspicious of his behavior, & louis became isolated & depressed. lestat helped finance his businesses, but louis found it increasingly difficult to endure the slights against his race, his relationship, & himself.one night, louis killed a racist businessman & left his corpse as a bloody decoration for all to see. the backlash is swift, white supremacists descending to burn down the poor black area of town. while wracked with guilt at the destruction that he caused, louis heard a child's voice in the burning quarter. from the flames, louis pulled claudia — a girl of only 12, badly burned. he begged lestat to turn her, to save her, to make her their daughter. lestat resisted, but eventually caved to louis' pleading.claudia is a prolific vampire, despite her young body. but louis & lestat argued often about how to raise her. & when claudia eventually left to seek her own future, louis fell into a deep depression for many years. upon her return, lestat realized that louis planned to leave him with claudia, & the two fought, leaving louis physically broken.louis eventually took lestat back, but the relationship continued to be strained & difficult. claudia, as captive to their misery, began to believe that they must kill lestat in order for she & louis to be free, & created a plan. with louis' help, she poisoned lestat. but louis refused to burn the body, leaving lestat alive.claudia & louis fled to europe in search of other vampires, eventually joining with the théâtre des vampires in paris. there, louis meets their coven leather, the vampire armand, & the two become companions. but there is danger afoot in the paris coven. louis & claudia soon discover that the coven was founded by lestat, & that if what they did in new orleans is discovered, their new life in paris may come to an end before it's even begun.
